Élan derives from the French word élancer which means to throw forward. Women everywhere nowadays are throwing themselves forward towards their dreams, beliefs, and ambitions. We are here to celebrate the embrace of self and identity women have found in reaching their goals. Gone are the days of insecurity and passivity. Measuring at 18 by 24 and painted in black, red, and pink acrylic and watercolor; Élan welcomes and supports all women in their revelations and endeavors. The series features 3 women who have very different styles and paths to cross, all find themselves enjoying the satisfying and refreshing taste of bubble teas.

Courtney is an artist, musician, and educator. Inspired by a love for animation and surrealism, Courtney uses the fairytale narrative to explore the female experience and journey in modern day life. Her practice focuses on drawing, painting and collage to create sequential imagery. By day she is an early childhood educator dedicated to creative and inclusive education. In her spare time, she takes photographs of the children she spends her time with. Courtney has been playing guitar for almost 3 years and is inspired by the indie folk/rock scene, rockabilly, and 80’s alternative music. Her love of animals has resulted in making a home for two kittens and one hedgehog.
